Amazing Love: IWBS’s Easter Gathering

This Easter, join Ithaca Women’s Bible Study (IWBS) as we reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus paid. Let us celebrate the freedom found in His amazing love and together proclaim that new life, strength, and hope are found in Christ alone.

Our Easter Gathering takes place Thursday, April 17, from 9:30 to 11:30am in the BG Family Center. Come enjoy music, food, fellowship, and a message from guest speaker, Susan Hay entitled: “He Was Forsaken That We May Never Be Forsaken”. Invite a friend.

Did you know that IWBS began in 1969? Three friends, Letty Ludington, Diana Jenkins, and Nancy Sobel, began studying the Gospel of Luke in Letty’s living room. The location enabled Letty’s mother, who was wheelchair-bound and lived with the Ludingtons, to participate. While the women feasted on God’s Word, their children played in the basement.

Word of the study spread throughout the community and drew women from a variety of church affiliations. In time, the town noticed the weekly pile-up of cars that spilled out of the driveway and stretched along the road. When no-parking signs were put up, BG offered the ladies space to meet. IWBS is open to women from all denominations and churches.

In addition to meeting on Thursdays during the academic year, IWBS has hosted conferences, seminars, speakers, and evangelistic brunches. Letty has been the main Bible teacher throughout its 57 years. She says that her goal has always been to lay a doctrinal foundation for the ladies, noting that to do this, “I depend completely on the Holy Spirit.”

Michelle Emr’s organizational skills and determination were instrumental in the study shifting to a Zoom format during the Covid shutdowns. Today, IWBS meets weekly via Zoom, but this special Easter event is in person (Zoom option for those unable to meet in person).
