This sermon was preached without the usual preparation and study. BG opened up the service to the Holy Spirit’s leading in a more direct way for this sermon. The elders selected a passage for Pastor Raley to preach. The worship leader picked songs without knowing that passage. And Pastor Raley found out that he was preaching from Jeremiah 29 at the same time as everyone else: when elder John Sanderson read the passage for the congregation that morning. As a result, everyone saw together what usually only the leaders see. The Holy Spirit uses many people’s decisions each week to craft a service that has a clear theme.
