A Kingdom Kids Orientation

Have you ever wondered about “A Day in the Life of a Kingdom Kids volunteer?” You are welcome to set up a day to observe our classes! I’d love for you to experience it.

As a teaser, here are some routines on a regular Sunday morning. Perhaps you see a need that you can help fill?

Big Picture Awareness

  • Time-keeper: making sure the various elements keep moving & don’t run too long.
  • Spotting holes in the basket: is someone feeling left out? Are any supplies missing?
  • Safety czar: Are there any current or anticipated safety concerns?

Inspiration

  • Games: reinforce the lesson, engage students in physical movement, build teamwork and cooperation
  • Storytelling: either through reading a story, presenting with puppets, or acting out a skit – stories engage the imagination
  •  Object lesson: a prop or experiment is engaging and memorable

Doing Work & Projects

  • Making things: we love crafts and art projects. Students engage with the lesson and each other while making art or doing hands-on projects.
  • Lesson/teaching: each week we try to find ways to engage their imagination with the Scripture lesson. Right now we are learning about Jesus’ early ministry.
  • Memory work: various tools can be used to memorize Scripture. Our current favorite way is to just have the first letter of each word. Can you guess this familiar verse? FGSLTWTHGUHOS. (It’s John 3:16a)

Fellowship & Celebration

  • Snack preparation & serving: imagine bagel hour, but juice and pretzels instead of coffee and bagels. The students love this time.
  • Music: learning songs and singing together. Are you gifted in this area? Would you like to teach a song for a few weeks? Hand-motions are optional!
  • Engaging in play: this is especially important in our toddler/preschool class. We can share Jesus’ love by teaching how to share Duplo trains.

You might notice there can be a lot of overlap in these roles – many tasks serve multiple purposes, and some people serve multiple roles. As Pastor Matt has been speaking about our callings within the church, please consider if your unique story could be used to serve the young people in our church family.
