Our awesome God wants us to know Him as fully as possible. For our sake and His glory, He has revealed Himself and His character to us in at least three ways: through His written word, through His son Jesus (Hebrews 1:3), and through His creation (Psalm 19:1-6, John 1:3, Romans 1:20). At Bethel Grove, we spend lots of time learning about the Bible and our wonderful savior, Jesus. But we spend less time learning ways that nature reveals His divine attributes. Beginning on Sept. 13, we’ll have a 3-Sunday Adult Christian Education series that will highlight some ways that the creation displays our incomparable God using scientific testimonies from several Cornell scientists who attend our church.
On each Sunday, one of our scientists (John Sanderson, Steve Lantz, or Jonathan Butcher) will describe how they perceive the wisdom, power, creativity, brilliance of God, or how God is revealed in the science of their discipline in the material world.
We hope this series will be interesting and useful for everyone. And perhaps it will be particularly encouraging to students to see firsthand that some of the scientists at Cornell are committed followers of Christ and also committed to their scientific discipline.
The intent of these presentations is to describe the awesomeness of God’s Hand as He has revealed it to us in the material world that we study. The series will be all about Him and His creation. We do not intend to discuss the relationship between science and faith which is controversial to some, nor describe how we try to serve as a Christian scientist to colleagues or students. We hope these presentations will glorify God by fostering a deeper awareness of His astonishing Creation among believers at BG.
