Be Our Guest

“Be Our Guest”
Katie Winkler

What difference does Christ’s resurrection make to everyday life? As we think about our work responsibilities, interactions with coworkers, stress over homework and class schedules, caregiving for the young or elderly or vulnerable, and our conversations with friends, what difference does Easter make?

Easter might simply be an annual holiday that marks a change in the church season, much as the first day of spring marks a seasonal change in the solar year. It also might be a holiday of remembrance and appreciation, much like Independence Day or Armistice Day, with accumulaed traditions and celebrations that have strayed from the original meaning of the event itself. Does it matter whether we
acknowledge the resurrection of Jesus every single year?

Those of us organizing the Early Easter Celebration submit to you that Easter is meaningful and worth commemorating as a victory celebration in honor of Christ’s resurrection. Come and rejoice with us!

We know that “if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile” and His death would have been futile too. “But now Christ is risen from the dead” and we have hope (1 Corinthians 15:17, 20). Although we may not understand the details of how we have been united with Him, we do know that He has “wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14). Not only that, but “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 John 5:11).

Because He lives, we can live our ordinary days with courage, peace, and hope.

The Early Easter Celebration will be just that: a celebration of what Christ’s resurrection means to our lives today. We will have testimonies from several members of our congregation, as well as time to reflect on the scope of our deliverance through Scripture reading and song.

Plus, we will have a wonderful breakfast together, enjoying a full bodied, multi-sensory victory celebration. Come be our guest and rejoice with us!
