Frank Smalley started BG’s Man Up group to urge men to build deeper community and learn biblical principles through the “Authentic Manhood Bible Study.” We want men to become who we’re created to be.
Authentic Manhood offers:
~ A Gospel-centered, trusted resource.
~ Practical insight into real-life issues.
~ Authentic community among men.
~ Diverse content that reaches a wide audience.
~ Encouraging messages that show you you’re not alone.
~ Short, easy-to-understand and creative video sessions
What does this men’s group look like at Bethel Grove? We have men from different generations, from college to retirement. Our format begins with food, food, food! Food is provided by a few men who enjoy cooking chili or stew. Other attendees bring drinks, desserts, and side dishes. Conversation about our life experiences seems to come easily in this environment.

Early in our meeting we have some games or Q&A. We might be asked to write down something no one else would know about us. Then we read the replies and guess who wrote what.
We move on to the Authentic Manhood video. Four men take turns leading the video study sessions. The video sessions include testimonies addressing areas where we may have failed, such as family relationships. Sessions also help us see how to apply the teachings of the Bible in our lives. There is always a positive message that helps men experience God’s grace and power in specific ways.
After each video session, we split into small groups to discuss a particular aspect of the video. This is one of the richest parts of Man Up because men are encouraged to share their own thoughts and experiences, while learning from one another. The small group discussions show us that, truly, we are not alone in our struggles.

The Man Up meetings each month have served many men in many different ways. It is a joy to have a positive, meaningful, and Bible-based way for men to grow and learn. We invite you to join us at our next meeting on Friday, March 21st at 6pm!
