Woven Together

Over the past couple years, we have woven together Nature Camp, our summer children’s program. It serves to disciple the children of BG, as well as reaching out to the wider community. We have even had out-of-state visitors sign up to attend Nature Camp while they are in the area.

Ask any former camper about it, and you may hear stories of Paper Towel Guy and his tiny hut, one-match challenges, epic games running in the lawn, and sneaking barefoot or blindfolded through the woods. They might tell you about their own group’s camp spot, what bugs or plants they found, and the friends they made.

Meanwhile, each day teachers weave in stories of Jesus – how he walked on water, calmed a storm, and welcomes us into the shelter of his love and forgiveness. Together they learn Scripture passages and songs of praise.

This summer, we re-visit the theme of Survival – what are the needed priorities when approaching wilderness survival – or even just camping? How can we build a shelter to stay dry, find water to drink, or make food from the plants? We connect those challenges to God himself who provides all that we need, is the shelter for our souls, the water and bread of life.

This year we will be weaving something else together: a group project of a large collaborative woven tapestry to illustrate how God uses each of our unique stories and experiences to build our community. We are seeking fabric donations! If you have spare cloth (must be at least three feet wide/long so we can cut strips), there will be a collection bin in the lobby. Just drop it off in the coming Sundays!

Would you like to get involved in other ways? We need prayer: Let me know if you’d like our prayer updates. We can still use adult leaders and helpers – even if you are only available for an afternoon. Our week will run Monday-Thursday, July 13-16.
Email heidi@bg.org and we can discuss how to get you plugged in.

See you in the woods!
