Today, I’d like to coin a new acronym – FOMP – Fear of Missing Prayer. Sound silly? I maintain that believers in Jesus Christ should want to seize opportunities to pray together. In other words, we should fear missing out on such a precious privilege. I personally do not like the word should. But brothers and sisters, not only should we pray, we are commanded to pray as evidenced in the following verses.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6
“And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23
“When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” Daniel 6:10
Moreover, remember the great cloud of witnesses that’s cheering you and I on as we run the race marked out for us? We have every reason to believe that our faith is the fruit of their prayers. An amazing thought.
So let FOMP spur you on to investigate one of the following opportunities to pray with others at BG.
The Men’s Wednesday morning prayer group meets in the Family center from 8-10 am, contact Doug, 607-533-0007. The Thursday night Zoom prayer group convenes at 6:30 to fellowship and prays from 7-8 pm, contact Sue at susanjcave4@gmail.com. The prayer group for the Persecuted Church meets bimonthly, contact Ann at eab4@cornell.edu. Urgent prayer requests can be emailed to bgprayerchain@bg.org, moderated by Brenda Ross. In addition, the Communication Cards found in the pews can be used to jot down a prayer request that will be prayed for by Pastor Matt and BG staff.
Remember to “pray without ceasing”. I Thessalonians 5:17
